Memorial Day Week End 2011:  CalTrans intentionally risks the lives of many RV families by unnecessarily diverting travelers to Ryer Island, since the new Real McCoy Ferry II was intentionally designed to be incapable of safely accomodating RV's.  CalTrans created a detour to Ryer Island, sending RV travelers 28 miles out of the way by criss-crossing Delta lands north of Ryer Island, even though no work was being done on Jefferson Blvd leadiing to Ryer Island.  One long section of the detour sent families driving along a narrow dirt levee, which clearly put those families at risk. This web page provides a map and short videos of each of the detours experienced by travelers trying to find Ryer Island.  There was no work being done on Jefferson Blvd, and CalTrans had confirmed in writing that there would be no detours.  Formal complaint with the state will be filed on behalf of the RV families who were put at risk, and on behalf of resort as it affects our customers so much when CalTrans creates travel hazzards as they did the week end of Memorial Day, 2011 videos and map pending.  In the meantime, here are a few photos and a short video of one road that was part of the unnecesary detour: Sign driving south on Ryer Road says detour is upcoming and applies until 6/3/2011 With no roadwork in the horizon, traffic is detoured onto a road headed east, towards the Sacramento River    video of part of route:  caltrans2011.mpg
