In 1862 California explorer and author James M.
Hutchings published a book describing the
“Scenes of Wonder and Curiosity in
California”. He was on a paddle wheeler headed for Sacramento
when he passed through Steamboat Slough; he describes the "snug
little cabins" along the peaceful banks of Steamboat Slough. The
little cabins of times past have been replaced by more modern versions,
but the ambiance of shady trees, wild vines and serene setting on
Steamboat Slough described by Mr. Hutchings remain. Modern
conveniences like WIFI, docks, gas, and fax service add 21st Century
comfort without diminishing 19th Century charm.
