December 2011 update on some of the water intake facilities already built and other CALFED projects in progress:  click on each graphic or map section to view in full size and you can also see the links to the various projects.  One project just north of the I-street bridge can be seen on some maps, but doesn't show on other maps.  It's called a "water treatment Inlet" but it appears to match a design proposed in the older CALFED documents.  More info will be posted as it comes available.

The materials for the public scoping meetings did not make it very clear, but it appears this new
intake will be or is located underneith the Hwy 5 bridge across the Sacramento River between
Woodland and the Sacramento Airport.

Already built, tested and operational according to some state officials...not operating yet according to
others.  Ask where the water goes from the releases from the pressure release valves in the transport
pipes.  Ask what happens to the sediment collected from the water.

The project pictured below is at the end of Empire Tract, which you reach by going west on Eight Mile Road...like going to where Herman's and Helen's houseboat rentals used to be, and then turn left (towards the San Joaquin River) and keep driving along the levee road and you'll come to the fencing...general public not allowed in this construction area.  Stockton already gets its water from diversion pipes before the water reaches the Delta so no doubt this is one of those "conjunctive use" projects where the end result will be more water for EBMUD, Stockton, San Joaquin County, and less water for the North Delta tributaries like Steamboat Slough where according to DWR computer modeling the water flow will be reduced by 50% on average, seasonally.  As of December 2011 this project is still under construction.

Below is a project already completed according to the CCWD website that no longer works as of 12/2011.

The Los Vaqueros Reservoir expansion was part of the "surface storage" studies of the CALFED
record of decision in 2000.  Its filling up in Dec 2011 to provide more water for the bay area.

Viewed from an airplane, and showing on some mapping websites, but the data is not known,
except that it looks like one of the intake designs promoted by CALFED 2000 ROD studies.

Above and below:  December 2011 photos along the Garden Highway near Verona.
A new canal has been built to transport water from the Sacramento River to the various
newer housing projects and the farming lands.

Below:  the plans for changes to Dead Horse Island, which look much like the plans
for the "through Delta" conveyance plan of CALFED ROD and of the "Franks Tract, et al"
value planning to revise the operations of the Delta Cross Channel to increase
diversion of the Sacramento River water.

Super levee just off Hwy 12 to protect the highway just in case Staten Island is used
for in-delta water storage...as planned.  Click on the photo to see a larger version...
those two animals are river otter running towards a small creek next to Hwy 12.
I guess the enlarged levee displaced their natural home so now they hang out next
to the huge volume of traffic and trucks of Hwy 12 on Boudin Island!!!

I'm told the NBA intake is under construction now but I have not seen it...have you?

below is a photo of a "super levee" north of Sacramento along the Garden Highway,
west of the Sacramento Airport

"Weap" is the name of a planning process from EBMUD...might want to look at this as it seems to just lately shown online.

section of 1886 "William Hall" map which shows both Steamboat Slough and "Old River Sacramento" on the map, just after hydraulic mining was prohibited. Section of 1945 state plan for
flood control also recognizes the location of Steamboat Slough, but
its widened.  Note that Steamboat Slough was the original route
for transportation/navigation to the city of Sacramento in the gold rush days
