You see nothing above. That is
because there is nothing. For a month we've been asking CalTrans to provide us with
written documentation verifying WHY manufactured housing has been
singled out exclusively from ferry use, WHEN this decision was made,
WHO made the decision, and WHAT NOTICE did the business owners and
residents of Ryer Island receive regarding this restriction.
CalTrans has provided nothing.
We've been repeatedly told by the Sacramento CalTrans office, who
does the database input, that they have no records of the decision
to limit 'MANUFACTURED HOMES PERIOD" from ferry use. Ryer
Island residents, and Ryer Island Farmers who have lived here and
used the ferry for 50 years recall no notices or hearings by
CalTrans to limit manufactured homes from ferry use. In fact,
several of the manufactured homes on Ryer Island came across the
exact same ferry.
So where did this restriction really
come from and why?
Update 3/28/07. Mr. Robert Songey,
District 4, Caltrans FAXed the following document which shows when
the hearing was conducted regarding weight restrictions on the
ferry. The weight restrictions are not the issue. All
manufactured home sections being denied access to the ferry are
within the length and width and weight restrictions. Note that
the very last few words of the document says "no permits". Mr.
Songey says this means no transport on the ferry that would usually
need permits. However, we know of AT LEAST 30 different times
since 2000 or this hearing where oversize permits WERE granted use
of the same ferry. So the question still stands, and the
manufactured homes continue to wait in storage... |
